WHAT IS CROSS COUNTRY?
Cross country, explained in its simplest form, is a 3-mile running race. However, there is much more to it. Races can be flat or hilly. Races can be on dirt, grass, or concrete. It is both a team sport (top 5 finishers on a team score) and an individual sport.
WHO CAN RUN CROSS COUNTRY?
Our basic philosophy is that any student can run cross country. However, you must be willing to put in the effort to be the best that you can. If you run cross country, you are expected to work hard and make an effort to constantly get better.
WHY RUN IN THE SUMMER?
It is to your advantage to run in the summer because the cross country racing season starts right when school begins in September. Running in the summer will get in better condition to do well during the season and it will gradually acclimate you to the running that we do in cross country. You also get to meet other members of the team before the school year starts.
WHAT SPORTS WOULD CROSS COUNTRY CONFLICT WITH?
Cross country is a fall sport, so it conflicts with other fall sports. Therefore, if you wanted to play football, girls’ volleyball, girls’ tennis, girls’ golf, or boys’ water polo, there would be a conflict. Other sports are in the winter or spring, so seasons do not overlap.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Coach Peebles, (818) 744-5499 or johnpeebles@burbankusd.org.
We strongly encourage any athlete who will be running in the fall to come up for the summer training.
