ANTHONY MONROY PLACES 5TH IN THE 3200 AT CIF DIVISION 1 TRACK AND FIELD FINALS AND EARNS THE LAST QUALIFYING SPOT FOR MASTERS

On Saturday at the CIF Track and Field Championships, sophomore Anthony Monroy ran a 9:22.18 at Cerritos College to place 5th in the Division 1 race. His time qualified him for the Southern Section Masters Meet - which will be held back at Cerritos on Friday, May 28 - by three hundredths of a second.
In other Burroughs related track and field news this weekend, Vivian Ochoa (JBHS '09) placed 4th in 40:10 in the 10000 at the California Community College State Championships on Friday, while Jonathan Alpizar (JBHS '08) finished 5th in 9:48 in the 3000 Steeplechase on Saturday. Both currently attend Glendale CC.
Lastly, three Burroughs alumni will be competing this upcoming weekend in postseason college competition - Daniel Anderson (JBHS '05), Lilyana Morejon (JBHS '07), and Western Nelson (JBHS '09). Daniel, who is a senior at UCSD, will run the 800 at the NCAA Division 2 Championships in North Carolina. Lilyana, a junior at CSUN, will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division 1 Championships in the 10000 at the West Regional in Austin, Texas. Western, in his first semester at CS San Marcos, will compete in the 10000 at the NAIA Nationals in Indiana.
